Happy New Year dear friends! It's 2012.
We have all had a great Christmas and Thanksgiving holiday.
I wonder if Johnny had a good Christmas?
I bet he didn't have a Christmas tree, maybe he didn't get to hear Christmas music. You might be sad for him ... but maybe you don't need to be ...because guess what I know he DID have?
1. Every day, he has the Lord close by. That way he is never alone.
2. Every day, he has his wife and family loving him.
On Christmas day they thought about him
all day long and prayed for him, all day long.

all day long and prayed for him, all day long.
3. Every day, he has friends that are loving him
and praying for him.
and praying for him.
4. Every day, he lives in the United States where he gets to be free to live the way the Lord calls him to live. He gets to pray to God, read his Bible, tell others about Jesus. He gets to learn how to be a Marine so he can protect our country, protect the people in our country, all the children, the moms, dads and grandmas.
He may not have had a Christmas tree, but Johnny is a blessed man. He is surrounded by love.
Here is a picture of him and his mom, Mrs. Cobb.
Look at that smile on his face, he really loves her.

How about you, do you love your mama? You should go give her a hug right now. That makes mama's smile cause they loooove their babies ... even when they grow up to be strong men.
This is week 5 for Johnny.
The tower and the gas chamber.
Wow. What even is a tower? What even is a gas chamber?
This is what the tower on Parris Island looks like. It's a really high tower and the recruits have to repel all the way down from the top. What do you think, do you want to try that? I see the rope tied around his waist, it must be connected to the top of the tower.
He has a helmet on and his hiking boots.
On the tower I can read
U
S
M
C
I wonder what that means.

On this video it shows a little bit about the tower and the tear gas training. It's kinda scary :/
At the end of the video the women's faces were red, and one young woman had stuff coming out of her nose. Eww, gross. It must have happened because the tear gas is awful.
It burns their eyes and nose.
Do you wonder why they would have to go into that horrible place and have their eyes burn and their noses burn?

You should ask your mom or dad, they can explain it to you.
When I was interviewing Johnny I asked him what made him want to do these hard things and he told me that he wants to be strong, to be an honorable man of God that protects our country.
Isn't that wonderful.
Isn't that wonderful.
Have you prayed for Johnny today?
He needs you to pray for him EVERY day. He is learning how to do hard things every day.
I found out that there are recruits that don't get any letters from ... anyone.
Can you imagine how lonely that might be? I think we might write one to a recruit we don't know, Mary and I.
I think we will send it to Johnny and ask him to give it to someone that hasn't gotten a letter.

I might write something like ..
Dear recruit,
You don't know me but I am Daisy. I am a friend of recruit Cobb. I understand that you are in Marine Boot Camp, just like recruit Cobb and it must be hard work.
I want to tell you thank you for all your hard work to get your self prepared to protect our country.
Here is a Bible verse to help you to be strong
16That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
17That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love ...
Ephesians 3:16-19 King James Version (KJV)
God bless you, your new friend,
Daisy.
I wonder if that would help a person be braver and stronger as they had to do all these hard things.
One day during mail call, Johnny got 12 letters!!! He was so happy and thankful. I bet he gets the most letters of all the recruits.
Here is another picture of Johnny during our interview.
We had a great day together. I can't wait for him to come back.
Oh, and by the way, I chose a side profile of me in this picture just in case you wanted to see how I looked from the side.
