We have heard from Johnny! He wrote a letter to his wife Meredith.
She shared with us what the letter said ..
"In his last letter, Johnathan reported to me that he had successfully completed the rappel tower (which he said was fun and he wanted to do it again,)
the gas chamber (which he said was very scary)
He described to me the panic and fear that swept over the men in the gas chamber as they breathed the gas and it burned their skin, lungs, eyes, and made them feel like they were suffocating.
But Johnathan was calm in the chaos; I was so happy to hear that God had honored my prayer that His peace would flood Johnathan there. I know Jesus was standing in the gas chamber next to Johnathan... just like the Hebrew men in the furnace.
While the other men came out of the chamber crying and screaming and the sort, Johnathan came out laughing and coughing!
With the completion of the gas chamber, the platoon is now in phase II of training. That means they get to blouse their boots and wear desert camies instead of the woodland camies with trousers over top of the boots. He says it symbolizes that the platoon is now more Marine, less civilian. I'm not sure what all responsibilities are associated with being a squad leader and he has been chosen to be a squad leader in his platoon (there are 3 squad leaders to a platoon, his platoon has around 50 guys in it.), but it is a position Johnathan wanted, and one of marked leadership. I am SO proud of him.
Love you. -Mere"
It sounds like he is doing really well - he wants everyone to know he really appreciates the letters and they make his day. So, keep them coming folks. I know Mrs. Sechler and her daughter wrote a letter to Johnny and a letter to a fellow recruit. It brings a smile to their faces remembering it.
How about you, have you written Johnny? If you did, we would love to hear that you did.

And since Johnny is in boot camp I thought moms and kids might want to do some boot camp too. Here is a video of how YOU can have boot camp at the playground.
PS, if you like a good love story ...
